INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS
The day's business in the Lords sometimes begin with a 
new Lord's introduction. This only takes place when a 
peerage is created - not inherited. It is the only occasion 
apart from the State Opening when a peer and his or her 
two supporters attend in full robes. He (or she) is led in 
procession from the Peers' Lobby to the Woolsack, 
where he hands the Letters Patent (which create the title) 
and Writ of Summons to the Lord Chancellor. 

The peer is then led to the table to take the Oath of Allegiance to
the Queen, and to sign the Test Roll. The new peer then takes a seat on the bench appropriate to their rank. A male peer greets the house by raising his hat to the Lord Chancellor. A similar but shorter ceremony takes place when a bishop takes his seat.
